between us

Due to the virus pandemic we are not able to meet for our album recordings this year. Last year, we invited more than 40 people from all over the world to France to create the Beyond Music Album Vol. 1: The 23 winning artists from 17 countries and 5 continents, along with our Artistic Director & Producer and his team, sound engineers, members of the studio band and the film crew. In these times, when the world stands still and there are worldwide travel restrictions, this cannot be realized for the Beyond Music Album Vol. 2, which we wanted to record in September.

We are sad but the crisis will not win. We will grow and embrace our values through our most needed quality: Solidarity. Solidarity between us, a solidarity in between the artists, solidarity for the planet and the nature we cherish. 
 
We thought a lot about the right answer to the situation. We didn't want to cancel or postpone the Beyond Music Project Vol. 2 for an indefinite time.

The question for us was: How can we best support you in this challenging time? With more Awards, more prize money and with ideas on how you can enhance your creativity even further.

We are extending the submission period until September 10, 2020 at 10 a.m. CET. We will honour your collaborations with a total of 16 Awards (Creativity Awards and other Awards) as an increase to the originally planned six Creativity Awards for 2020. The prize money for each is up to 5,000 US dollars. See all changes below.

Rules Update
Project Vol. 2

  • Procedure

    •    The submission period is extended until September 10, 2020 at 10 a.m. CET.

    •    As it will not be possible to invite to the workshop and album recordings this year, we will give Awards with prize money to selected music pieces (Creativity Awards and other Awards).

    •   The winning music pieces of the Creativity Awards will also be prepared for release by a Producer.

    •   Artists will be supported by a great Mentoring team who will provide them with video tutorials, expertise, tips, inspiration and insights. More details further down.

  • Awards

    •    We will present a total of 16 Awards (Creativity Awards and other Awards) for outstanding collaborations as an increase to the originally planned six Creativity Awards for 2020.

    •    The prize money of 4,000 US dollars for the winning team will be increased to 5,000 US dollars starting with the 3rd Award. The increase is combined with this regulation: Each member of a winning team will receive 1,000 US dollars for his or her participation, up to a group size of five members. Collaborations of more than five artists have to share the prize money of 5,000 US dollars equally.

    •    A submitted collaboration should consist of at least three artists. There is no upper limit to the number of artists. With this we want to ensure that as many artists as possible can benefit from the prize money.

    •    Remember: At least two different cultural backgrounds have to be represented in a collaboration, true to the vision of Beyond Music "uniting cultures through music". Please pay attention to the musical theme "Songs for the Planet". 

    •    As before, the teams are free to choose the style of music and whether they create a purely vocal or instrumental piece. Any genre and any combination of genres is welcome.

  • Handling and use of the winning submissions

    •    The winning music pieces of the Creativity Awards will be prepared for release by a Producer selected by Beyond Music. 

    •    By accepting the Creativity Award and the prize money, the respective team of artists agrees to transfer their exploitation and usage rights (producer right, artist right and copyright) to the Beyond Foundation without any further monetary payments. See below for details of the revenue regulations.

    •    The winning artist teams will provide Beyond Music with their submitted music files so that it can be sent to the Producer.

    •    Beyond Music will make these music titles available to the market-relevant download and streaming services (Amazon, iTunes, Google Play, Spotify, Apple Music and Deezer) both as individual tracks and later as part of the Beyond Music Album Vol. 2. The individual tracks and the album will be marketed and distributed by Beyond Music.

    •    All revenues from the exploitation of the music titles will be paid out to the winning artist teams. For this purpose, the revenues received by the Beyond Foundation will be calculated annually in October and communicated to the winning artist teams. The payout will also be made annually in November. If the total revenue from a music piece does not reach 300 Swiss Francs, the payout will be retained for administrative reasons and added to the payout for the following year. In any case, a payout will take place every three years. Any direct payments from collecting societies to the artist teams are excluded from this rule.

    •    If a team of artists of a music piece already submitted does not agree with the changes in the Conditions of Participation, it can withdraw its submission. A document signed by all participating artists is sufficient for this purpose.

    •    Furthermore, it is possible that an already submitted music piece can be reworked and resubmitted by the artist team, should they see the necessity for this due to the changes in the Conditions.

    •    The artist teams of the Creativity Awards already awarded need to transfer their exploitation and usage rights (producer right, artist right and copyright) to the Beyond Foundation under the same conditions as listed above, if they wish their music piece to be prepared for release by a Producer and uploaded to the market-relevant download and streaming services (Amazon, iTunes, Google Play, Spotify, Apple Music and Deezer) both as a single title and later as part of the Beyond Music Album Vol. 2. The individual tracks and the album will be marketed and distributed by Beyond Music. The above-mentioned revenue regulation applies.

  • Mentoring Team

    Three fantastic artists build the Mentoring team for the Beyond Music Project Vol. 2: Elina Duni, Yaron Herman and Manu Katché. These outstanding artists are excited to share their experiences and knowledge with you. They will create video tutorials on topics such as improvisation, songwriting, production techniques and career development advice. They will provide expertise, tips, inspiration and insights. The video tutorials will be produced starting in September 2020 and are exclusively available to the Beyond Music community.   • Social media activities

    We have planned social media activities for our community. For this we will write to all artists who have entered submissions for the Beyond Music Project Vol. 2 and ask them to make short films on their mobile phones. If you send us material, we assume your agreement that we can edit and use the submitted photo, audio and video material for this purpose. See the outcome of our video campaign here.
